Facial Recognition Firm Facing £17m ICO Data Handling Fine

The company has been ordered to stop data processing after the ICO warned of a substantial privacy fine for the mishandling of collected facial data in the UK.

Australian Facial recognition company Clearview AI is facing a £17 million fine for its mishandling on user data in the UK.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) announced its “provisional intent” to impose the potential fine on the company, which describes itself as the ‘World’s Largest Facial Network’.

Additionally, the ICO has issued a provisional notice for Clearview AI to halt further UK data processing and to delete it following alleged serious breaches of the UK’s data protection laws.
