UK public at risk from hostile state threats – MI5

The head of MI5 is to urge the public to be as vigilant about threats from “hostile states” as from terrorism. These include disruptive cyber-attacks, misinformation, espionage and interference in politics – and are usually linked to Russia and China. Read via BBC News.

Iranian hackers posed as British-based academic

An Iranian group which pretended to be a British-based academic in order to target individuals in a cyber-espionage campaign has been discovered. The group also compromised a real website belonging to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, to try to steal information. Read via BBC News.

CTOs Keeping Quiet on Breaches to Avoid Cyber Blame Game

BA Settles with Data Breach Victims

Compensation is to be paid to thousands of victims of a large-scale data breach at British Airways (BA).   A legal claim was filed against the airline over a security incident that began in June 2018.
