Advent IM Achieves NHS Data Protection Toolkit Compliance, Demonstrating Commitment to Data Security Excellence
News and information from the Advent IM team.
All organisations with access to NHS patient data and systems are required to complete and publish a self-assessment using the Data Security and Protection Toolkit. This ensures compliance with the National Data Guardian’s 10 data security standards, which are designed to protect sensitive patient information and uphold robust data governance. Advent IM is proud to confirm that we have successfully completed our own self-assessment, demonstrating our continued commitment to data security and compliance in the healthcare sector.
In addition to meeting our own obligations, we also support other organisations in navigating and completing their assessments, helping them achieve and maintain compliance with these critical standard. You can find more information about this service here.
The NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is a mandatory online self-assessment tool for organisations that process NHS patient data or connect to NHS systems. It provides a structured way for organisations to demonstrate how they meet the data security standards set out by the National Data Guardian (NDG), covering everything from access controls and data sharing to staff training and incident response.
By using the DSPT, organisations show that they are taking appropriate measures to protect sensitive health data—and by extension, patient trust.
Non-compliance with the DSPT doesn’t just risk regulatory penalties or reputational damage. It can also:
Jeopardise NHS contracts or partnerships
Prevent access to NHS systems or data
Erode patient and stakeholder trust
For healthcare providers, data processors, and suppliers in the sector, the DSPT is not simply a box-ticking exercise—it’s a vital part of good information governance and cyber hygiene.
